Student Writing Contest Letter

Dear New England students,

Are you:

  • Interested in fantastic other worlds?
  • Someone who enjoys fantasy and science fiction?
  • A writer, or aspiring writer?
  • Currently enrolled in high school, or 18 and younger and never enrolled in college?

Then you should write and submit a story to the Arisia 2013 Young Writers Contest!

Arisia, Inc. is a 501(c)3, non-profit, volunteer-run organization whose purpose is to promote science fiction and fantasy. (Our most visible promotion is the annual Arisia convention.) This year, we're opening up a new contest to young writers, looking for short works of fiction (maximum 3000 words) in the fantasy or science fiction genres. Students may write under this year’s special theme of emphasizing character strength in the face of chaos, or they may draw inspiration from any other science fiction or fantasy theme(s).

This free contest is open to all high school students or young adults between the ages of 13 and 19, currently residing in the New England area (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, VT). There are no entry fees or "gotcha's", and authors will retain ALL rights to their works --we only wish to encourage, celebrate, and recognize the talented young writers throughout the northeast.

Prizes will be awarded to exceptional stories, including cash prizes (first prize is $250!) and memberships to attend next year's Arisia. The deadline for entries is December 21st, 2012. Entries should be submitted electronically to writingcontest@arisia.org.

For more information, or to ask any questions, please see http://www.arisia.org/writingcontest, or e-mail us at writingcontest@arisia.org

Happy writing!

Conor Walsh,
Vice President, Arisia
